Melanie Dailey, Licensed Acupuncturist

DBA CommonWealth Acupuncture

I grew up in the Cleveland, OH area, and moved to Lexington, KY in 2015. In my prior career as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, I worked for MetroHealth, Cleveland’s Level I Trauma Center and specialized in Outpatient Orthopedics, Aerobic & Strengthening and Work Conditioning for those injured on the job. Working with people afflicted with trauma has taught me to consistently seek methods to help bring harmony back to my patients lives.

In my quest for balance, I discovered acupuncture and loved receiving it so much that I decided it was a perfect second act for my career in the healing arts! Acupuncture supports healthy metabolic rate, harmonizes emotions, improves sleep, balances energy levels, and rejuvenates the body. I chose to learn Classical Five Element acupuncture which is based on the understanding of the cyclical flow of meridian energy, similar to that of the seasons. This system of ancient medicine diagnoses a person’s imbalance(s) in their Water, Wood, Fire, Earth or Metal elements, and treats the corresponding symptoms at the levels of body, mind, heart and spirit.

I am passionate about helping others find balance and continue to learn various systems of acupuncture that counteract obstructed flow created by trauma, illness, emotional, or psychological disharmony. In addition to the application of acupuncture and Asian bodywork, Chinese herbs & nutritional recommendations are often made to help facilitate addressing the root imbalance(s) and the return to wholeness.

Graduating from the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture in Gainesville, FL, I earned my Master’s Degree in Acupuncture as well as a certification in Chinese Herbalism. I’m licensed by the KY State Board of Medicine and I’m an NCCAOM Board-Certified Acupuncturist. Additionally, I’m trained in the internationally acclaimed Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture System taught by Dr. Martha Lucas. Meaning ‘beautiful person’, Mei Zen is an energy balancing method utilizing Chinese Medicine to treat acne, age spots, aging skin, weight challenges, infertility, and many other cosmetic issues. This holistic system treats you as a whole, inside and out, to ensure you not only look your best – but feel your best!

ABOUT FIVE ELEMENT CONSTITUTIONAL ACUPUNCTURE

‘Nothing on earth or within the universe is unrelated to the Five Elements and Man is no exception.’ (Ling Shu Chapter 64)

At the heart of Chinese medicine, all of nature is governed by yin & yang and the Five Elements of Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. All matter in the universe is represented by these fundamental qualities. These Elements interrelate to one another through their corresponding Organs, which are described as Officials, and they each have roles for maintaining health in body, mind and spirit.

The ability of the body to heal is influenced by the strength of the body, mind and spirit, and trauma to any of these areas can cause a myriad of symptoms. When the Officials are not working with the strength that nature ordained, the mind and spirit suffer. In assessing the Elements and meridians to diagnose the root of the problem, a skilled Classical Five Element practitioner develops a plan to generate change by selecting acupuncture points that work with the unique mental and spiritual needs of each individual.

Although I utilize a combination of eight-principle TCM and five-element theory in my practice, the tradition I am trained in is associated with Dr. J.R. Worsley and is based on an overall orientation toward healing as opposed to techniques aimed at eradicating symptoms alone. My evaluation includes pulse and tongue diagnosis to detect imbalances in your meridian system, and my treatment approach includes careful selection of acupuncture points for your unique presentation with the intention of the return of spirit as guiding force.
